The Knights of St. Rord
Here's some background for the Knights of St. Rord. They are a group of warrior monks whose patron saint was a renowned fighter when the Rivaran people first left the ruins of their native land. He and a small band of knights fought against impossible odds to defend the first settlers from the massive hordes of cannibal natives that had beset the colonists. The order follows a creed to defend the people of Rivara as valiantly and skillfully as St. Rord did. They are religious zealots, very similar to our own Knights Templar. Their methods are unusual because, in an age of rapiers and gunpowder, they are still fighting with the antiquated longswords and shields that Rord and his knights used when they first arrived, although their armor is mostly up to date. However the skills of the knights are so great with these weapons, that not only can they keep pace in combat against a proficient rapier wielder, but they are considered the elite warriors of Rivara, nigh impossible to defeat. They are not directly affiliated with the Rivaran military or royalty.
The order has suffered terribly from the events of the massive earth quake that destroyed the Rivarans' native land, and with it the order's majority of its members. Only about 100 Knights of St. Rord exist out of the 10,000 some odd Rivarans. Their numbers are stretched ridiculously thin and many of the members no longer follow the code that they swore by. Their skills as warriors have declined as well, so that of the 100 existing members of the order, only about ten or twenty of them boast the skill level that all of the knights once had.
The current head of the order is Sir Matthew.
Images and mockups of the order will come soon.
